Interactive Website – Surf’s Up

From the test subjects’ feedbacks, I found out that our website was easy to use and the navigation system was clear. Thus, our website was interactive. Quizzes, videos, and musics used in the website engaged the user. Also, according to our feedbacks, the color scheme of our website, blue, reminded the user of the ocean. Also the blue scheme helped the whole surfing theme and blended in well. Even though, our website was clear and interactive, some pages lacked or had too much  information. Test subjects did not find any difficulties or problems in the website.

I learned that navigation system is crucial to create a good interactive website. Navigation navigates the user into different parts of the website. Without an effective and efficient navigation system, the user would have a difficult time surfing the website.

  • Orgnization is important when creating a website.

Aesthetics: screen size

  • 800 x 600 pixel is often used when designing a website.

Image Formats: JPEGS and GIFS

  • JPEG files take longer time to load compared to GIF files.
  • However, GIF files have lower quality than JPEG files.

Fonts

  • Most browsers are set to display texts in Times or Times New Roman.

Designing for Different Browers and Platsforms

  • The appearance of a web page differs due to user’s brower and computer. Therefore, it is better to check the website with different browsers or devices.

Interfaces and Navigation

  • Navigations, such as menu or links, help users access easily to wherever they want.

Brainstorming Web Design

I think working at home makes me less motivated compared to working at school. In school, I get motivated by  my friends, teachers, etc. Thus, I sometimes get. distracted by TV and music. With those distractions my quality of work gets affected. However, unlike working at school, working at home is less “anxious”. In other words, I am more relaxed working at home. Overall though, I prefer working at school because I can be more focused and get things done quickly with precision.

Redesigning Website

Redesigned

Before Redesigned

1. How does the design reflect and support the purpose if the site?

Since this company, Gates N Fences, is a gate system company, I wanted to design a website that is simple and reflects gates. Therefore, I chose gray for the theme color and used different types of gray. Unlike the previous website, which consisted a lot of words, and menus, I used dropped down menus to make things easier to look at and simpler.

2. Which of the 4 alignments is most clearly evident? Explain their use.

I think contrast is most clearly evident on my website. I used several different font sizes to create contrast between texts. For example, I used a bigger font size for the title compared to the other texts. Also, for company address I used the smallest.

3. What 2 ideas did you uncover because of this task?

I learned that it takes time and effort to create a good website. Those good websites that I found, such as Apple.com, Google.com, should have took a lot of time and effort to publish. Thus, I first thought that there is only one way to create a website, by using HTML codes. However, from this task, I uncovered that we can work on Photoshops to design a website.

Dear Mr. Bartlet,

This is a followup letter about our powerpoint’s main points and highlights. We accessed to your website and found several needs such as e-commerce. E-commerce allows customers to have a smooth ordering process. High disk space size allows you to upload files and pictures of your products. Also a perfect cost and performance ratio allowing you the best

We compared five Hosting Services in Australia with their price and features. As you can see from our presentation, we recommend EZiHosting for your Hosting Service.

EZiHosting because…

1. Most disk space of 1GB

2. Unlimited number of email accounts

3. Cheapest ($109.45/year) including free setup fee

I have also embedded our slideshow in this letter. We hope our presentation helped on your decision.

Sincerely Yours,
Takumi Sashida

ISP’s Questions

Does your home have Internet access?

Yes. NTT.

What do ISP’s actually provide?

ISP’s provide us the access to the Internet. In back, we pay to subscribe.

What do they promise/guarantee?

ISP’s may provide us with an email account, server, and the Internet access with certain speed depending on the plan you have subscribed

What does that mean?

ISPs is to the Internet as the airport is to traveling. ISPs allow access or “travel” to the Internet. Aiports allow us to board an airplane for traveling. Basically, ISPs are gateways and gives us access to the Internet.

What happens if it fails?

We can not access to the Internet.

Website Code Challenge

It was pretty challenging creating a website by writing codes. This was my first time writing codes and it also was for my partner, Jennifer. Throughout the challenge we have encountered several problems. Especially the process of writing the correct code was difficult. Even though we had a source that would show us several codes, me and my partner had some problem using the code correctly. By using meaning, for example, having the right link or . Compared to the other HTML we have seen, obviously our coding was not that complex and our design of the website was bland and simple. Even though our coding was simple compared to the other websites, it was pretty complex and confuing for us.

My partner, Jennifer has done a great job finding pictures. Those pictures she found gave our website creativitity, design, and “life”. She also came up with some ideas about the website. Jennifer defined mistakes and parts that need improvements. I mainly wrote codes and looked up codes in w3school.com. Our roles were decided naturally. We just went with the flow.I think my hunch about my personal “problem solving” style is that I just want to get done with it. Including some quality work and usually I take command if my partner is not good at that kind of area of work. In this case, since Jennifer was not good at computer and techonology, I kind of played the role of leader. Our strengths might be creativity because Jennifer likes creativity and adds designs and pictures. Our drawbacks might be that we would sometimes wonder about not focusuing on our work.

Overall, it was great writing codes. I have always wondered about codes especially after watching “The Social Network”. I was amazed by the amount of codes that are needed to create a website. Even though we had some problems and difficulties I think Jennifer and I worked collarborately creating a good website.
